I have a new website! 🥳

After being part of a reduction in force at my job in the Spring, I had some downtime this summer while I started hunting for a new role. One of the projects I made a plan to tackle while I had the time was finally overhauling my very broken website.

As part of the overhaul I opted to move from self-managing on my own web host to a hosted product. After evaluating a bunch of them, I opted to go with @zenfolio. 

So far it’s been pretty good. I have a few frustrations with the product but it was easy to set up and get going. I still have more galleries to get uploaded and a giant backlog of photos to edit through, but the start is there. I even made a goofy logo that I’ll likely replace but works for now.

Watching the morning workout at Keeneland was great for doing slow pan shots. I was toying with the right slow shutter speed and nabbed this at 1/25s. 😁

While in Kentucky we also stopped by @keeneland for a Morning Works Tour where you not only watch the morning workouts but also get to see some of the special areas of the racetrack like the top suites in the grandstand.

Recently I spent a week in Kentucky with my partner. While we definitely hit up many of the fine bourbon distilleries, I also made sure we got to see some horses too. 😁

We booked a tour on @visithorsecountry of @millridgefarm for one of our stops. It was such a great time! Learned a lot about thoroughbreds and their nursery operations at the farm. And we got to meet many horses (with the help of plenty of carrots).

These characters are some of the youngsters who were definitely quite nosy at my fisheye lens but also on the hunt for carrots and some pets. 😆

A fun urban wildlife spot today while I was running on the 606… a red-tailed hawk perched along the trail!

Little weasel, Big rocks 

A fun surprise at the Sheepeater Cliff in the park was this short-tailed weasel. At least we think it’s most likely a short-tailed weasel; there is a slight possibility it was a least weasel, which would be a rare spot in YNP. We had much debate on this all afternoon & over dinner. 😆

But this dude was so small and FAST. It was quite the entertaining chase trying to keep track of where it went or popped up next. It was not bothered by us at all and seemed more curious about us when it did come close.

Weather was perfect for photographing the harlequin ducks on the Lehardys Rapids yesterday. The ladies claimed the good rock but they were posing nicely. Managed this fun ghost duck when one decided it was time to fly up stream while I was on a slow shutter.

One of the more exciting baby sightings yesterday was this newborn moose with its mother. We think it was less than a week old and it was still all wobbly legged. Such a precious thing to see.

It was baby day for us starting with finally seeing more than one of these red fox kits coming out of their den under/in an abandoned building in Silver Gate. Had a little bit of playtime action but they mostly stuck to the deck or near the building.

This was my spot as we were driving along near Fishing Bridge. Almost thought we lost it but managed to find it as it made its way through the trees. Only got a few shots as the fox was clearly on its way somewhere at quite the trot.

A fog bow while we were out on an extra early start this morning

And the surprise of the afternoon yesterday was a very tolerant calliope hummingbird while we were actually waiting on a badger.

One of the Star moments today was these two black bear cubs who got distracted by one of the orange cones as they were following mom across the road. (The cones were set out by the rangers to stop people parking on the road as it was a high bear activity area). 

I processed this image twice & still not sure I’m happy with it. I initially did it black & white but then the cone was kinda lost. Will probably redo it again. 😆

Snoozing on the river.

The harlequin ducks captured my heart on my first trip to Yellowstone. They only migrate through the park, usually more in May, so we are lucky a few are still here. Not just pretty to look at, they are incredibly strong swimmers & swim in the rapids of the river. Or in this case, sleep casually on a rock as the rapids rush by.

We should all be more harlequin duck and let the torrent of things flow by.

Peek-a-bear! 

We kicked off yesterday with an amazing start - the obsidian grizzly sow & her three tiny cubs! Bonus, was being first on scene and it being so early still there was hardly anyone who joined us, so it stayed super chill the whole time. The cubs were super fun to watch & so playful. Hoping we see them again.
